The Art of Tapping Into the Zone

The real shift in improving athletic performance, or for that matter any aspect of our lives, comes as we journey beyond the limitations of a fragile, reactive egoic mind. We transcend a personality that is often on the verge of upset, worry, anxiety or fear into a mindset where we are confident, empowered, focused and alive; ready to take on the challenges of a richly rewarding life.

By learning new skills that help us quiet and redirect the chatter of the Mind, we access the energy of this awesome power that is available to us in any moment in time. We more easily enter an altered state of consciousness known to athletes as “The Zone,” a mind/body state which is synonymous with tapping into the very life source energy inside of us that contains infinite and unimaginable potential and possibility.

The Zone is not something “out there,” but is an energy that is inside of us all the time. We cannot chase The Zone or try to find it; it will find us if we stay tapped into mind states of calmness, detachment, and deep inner peace. As elusive as it may seem, The Zone will be happy to show up in our games as we learn to get out of our own way. It will remain out of reach or quickly disappear, however, if we allow our hissy fits to take over or we ignore our angry, impatient, and worrisome moods. The energy system of the mind/body can no longer be ignored or underestimated in the field of human potentiality. This is why whenever we give something our energetic attention long enough – through thought, emotion and belief – we set into motion a chain of events that is a match to what first goes on in our imagination and in the Mind.

Every story we tell ourselves becomes true, whether or not we are aware of the stories that are being told. Wanted or unwanted, we create and attract whatever we focus upon in our lives.
